Healthy Youth Act Workshop-Avery County

Event Description :
Goal:
To provide resources for teaching reproductive health and safety education to teachers of Health Education (grades 7, 8, and 9) and school administrators.
Objectives:
After attending the workshop, participants will be able to:
-Implement the Healthy Youth Act, changes in the Standard Course of Study, and local policy for teaching reproductive health and safety education
-Increase skills and comfort for teaching reproductive health
-Discuss common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
-Describe the rates and risk factors for unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV and HPV, among adolescents
-Explain strategies for remaining or becoming abstinent and the effective use of FDA‐approved contraceptive and STD prevention methods
-Clarify misconceptions about sexual assault/abuse and prevention strategies
-Utilize resources for teaching reproductive health and safety education
Participants will be provided with:
-A CD‐ROM with 15+ lesson plans and 8 PowerPoint presentations aligned with
the Healthy Youth Act for grades 7, 8, and 9.
-A free training and certificate for .6 CEUs
-Light breakfast and lunch
Sites, Dates:
All workshops will be from 8:30 to 3:30. Please register electronically for the location
