Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH)
The Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) promotes the health and well-being of children and adolescents to enable them to become healthy and productive adults.

North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM Website)
The North Carolina Institute of Medicine is an independent, quasi-state agency that was chartered by the NC General Assembly in 1983 to provide balanced, nonpartisan information on issues of relevance to the health of North Carolina's population. The NCIOM convenes task forces, or working groups, of knowledgeable and interested individuals to study complex health issues facing the state in order to develop workable solutions to address these issues.

NC Injury and Violence Prevention Branch Website/Division of Public Health (DHHS)
Injury and violence are significant and largely preventable public health problems. Each year, injuries and violence keep millions of adults and children from achieving their goals.The work of the branch includes: collecting and analyzing injury data to better understand the problem; implementing programs to prevent injuries and violence; and coordinating and assisting groups working to prevent injury and violence to address the problem comprehensively.

  • NC Violent Death Reporting System (N.C. VDRS)
    The North Carolina Violent Death Reporting System (N.C. VDRS) is a public health, population-based surveillance system that contains detailed information on deaths that result from violence. The N.C. VDRS is an incident-based, relational database that combines information from multiple sources, such as death certificates, medical examiner reports, and incident reports from law enforcement agencies. The N.C. VDRS began collecting data in January 2004. The Annual Reports for 2004, 2005 and 2006 are available on this website.

NCAAHPERD (NC Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance)
The North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NCAAHPERD) is one of the oldest professional associations in North Carolina dedicated to the advancement of research and education within the fields of Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The vision of NCAAHPERD is to be the leading organization promoting and supporting a healthier, more creative and active North Carolina.

  • In School Prevention of Obesity and Disease (IsPod)
    The In-School Prevention of Obesity and Disease (IsPOD) initiative is designed as a comprehensive school prevention program to improve physical activity and eating habits in order to reduce obesity and the number of overweight children in grades K-8. By partnering with the NC Department of Public Instruction, we work with teacher education programs to create change within the current educational system. IsPod specifically addresses health disparities in NC counties. Individual county data is available as well as state-wide data from the IsPod website by selecting Data from the top menu.
