In 2009 the North Carolina Generally Assembly passed and the Governor signed into law the Healthy Youth Act, significant legislation regarding the instruction of reproductive health and safety. The new legislation revises a portion of the General Statute115C 81(e1) e (pdf, 108kb) and must be implemented beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.
To be compliant with the 2009 Healthy Youth Act (House Bill 88), the 2006 Healthful Living Standard Course of Study is currently under revision.
The NC School Board Association has revised this model policy to comply with the Healthy Youth Act adopted by the General Assembly in 2009: Policy 3540, Comprehensive Health Education Program.
